Motion to approve Secretary’s Report from December
First Charlie Mallar
Second Joan Kenney
All in favor
Due to computer problems there was no Treasurer’s report to approve. It is expected that Bill will have a new system and Quicken running within a week to catch up on the financials. Myles donated the system and software and Rob Casella is getting the computer ready for use.
Old Business
Angels and Elves – Dick Ficke reported the applicant numbers would reduce by 60 if applicants from Sanbornville and that area were referred to local programs. He thanked Ron Cornila for his help all season and Laura Sorochak for taking on a team by herself.
Peter Levesque volunteered a box truck to move items from headquarters back to storage on January 5. We will start at 8:30. Breakfast will follow on the club.
Dental Program – Ralph reported the Dec. 14th trial educational day at Madison school went very well. Only one child in 78 was found to need care immediately. Plans are underway for expanding to ten schools in Feb/Mar. A flyer to explain the program will be developed to help in the sale of raffle tickets.
Public Relations
It was suggested that a story about the raffle should go in the newspaper promoting both the raffle and the dental program.
Laura Sorochak will be setting up a table about Kiwanis at Curves soon.
Sponsored Youth
Looking at a hands on project with Camp Sunshine in April to do with the Key Club. Dick Ficke will email Charlie potential speaker name. It would be nice if someone from camp spoke to us in March about what we would be doing.
New Business
Black Fly Open
Myles is looking for a chair. We also need to decide which cause we should partner with by end of February.
New Refrigerator for Booth
Dick Check has received a donated used refrigerator for our coffee booth.
New Members
Bob Kiely and Peter Levesque will be inducted by Dick Check when he returns from vacation near the end of month or early Feb.
New Committee
Myles will see who wants to work on a fundraising project to ride the train for a Kiwanis cause, maybe for Camp Sunshine. The extended Kiwanis family could hire the train in September for a trip to the notch.
Myles will also explore the Kyles’ idea of having a cookout at their house and then attending a concert at Stone Mountain.
Change in Kiwanis Year
There was significant discussion about changing our year to begin in November so the new President has more time to adjust with all that happens in the fall. This would put our club out of synch with the rest of Kiwanis and affect reporting and require a bylaw change. Instead, it was suggested that the upcoming Presidents Dan and Dick meet with Myles to come up with a preliminary budget in May to show the board and be ready to start quickly in September.
Motion to adjourn at 8:00 p.m. in 6 degrees F
First Joan Kenney
Second Laura Sorochak
