Is this the same Angels and Elves from past years?

Yes, Angles and Elves is the same program that has been run by faithful volunteers in the valley for the past 13 years. The Kiwanis Club  took on the coordination of this project in 2003. We need and welcome all past volunteers and new ones to make this year a success. Angles and Elves is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization under IRS regulations so your donations are tax deductible. Brighten your holidays by donating to the program or sponsoring a needy child through Angels and Elves.

How does it work?

Individuals and businesses and organizations in the valley have come together for the past 13 years to purchase gifts for approximately 500 needy children in Carroll County.  Kiwanis checks with agencies in  Ossipee and Fryeburg who have similar gift programs to prevent duplication. We do check that all children have not had their 18th birthday. We do check that repeat children are getting older every year. Kiwanis is the coordinating group, but the Angels and Elves who make the program work come from everywhere in the valley. All gifts must be new. Every effort is made to make sure the child receives toys as well as needed items.

How do I register my child?

Stop by Elf Headquarters to complete a form. It is located next to Staples on Route 16. Application forms are coded and every effort is taken to protect the identity of participants. Sponsors do not know who they are buying for. You will need to complete a form for each child. The child must not have had their 18th birthday. There is no guarantee that a sponsor will be found for every child. Make sure there is a telephone number where we can contact you for pickup. Applicants are eligible for only one Christmas assistance program. Applications are shared with other programs.

Residents of Maine requesting assistance should contact Patricia Swett [Community Giving Tree] at 603-939-2262.

Residents of Ossipee, Center Ossipee, West Ossipee and Effingham requesting assistance should contact Donna Sargent [Project Santa] at 603-539-6851.

If you have any questions, please call (603) 356-8710.

How can I help?

There are four ways to help Angels and Elves in its mission.

1. You can become an Angel Sponsor who buys presents for a specific child or children. You can obtain a list of the child's need and wants at Elf Headquarters next to Staples on Route 16.. The average amount spent per child is $100. When you have finished shopping, drop off the items at Elf Headquarters. Don't worry if you cannot wrap the gifts, our Elves (our volunteers) will take care of the wrapping and delivery.  When your return the gifts, the Elves will be happy to give you a receipt for tax purposes. We have 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax status so your donations are tax deductible.

2. You can make a financial contribution by sending a check to Angels and Elves at P.O. Box 3053, North Conway, NH 03860-3053. Elves use this money to purchase items like coats and boots that some angel sponsors might not be able to afford. The money also helps us make sure each child gets a comparable amount of presents, especially within the same family. We have 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax status so your donations are tax deductible.

3. You can organize a group of friends, co-workers, hobby enthusiasts, church members, etc. to combine their efforts to buy gifts for a family or two families. Each person in your group might be responsible for specific items on the child's list.

4. You can contribute yourself or encourage your business to donate items needed at Elf Headquarters. Or send in that corporate donation to defray the cost of heat, telephones, newspaper ads, wrapping paper and purchases of  the more expensive items like coats and boots. We have 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax status so your donations are tax deductible. Please call 603-374-9042 or stop by Elf Headquarters to find out what is needed.

If you have any questions on the different ways to participate, please call (603) 356-8710. You can also contact Dick Ficke at rficke@earthlink.net.

Do I wrap the gifts?

Wrapping gifts is optional. If you wrap the gifts be sure you identify the contents because quite frequently the Elves have to be unwrap to check contents, sizes, colors, and to make sure they match the wants/needs list, etc. and then rewrap. The Elves will check to make sure each child gets a comparable number of gifts. This is especially important for families with more than one child.

What if I cannot afford everything on the child's list?

Purchase only what you can. Angels and Elves receives money donations to make up any shortfalls. Our Elves just love to go shopping.
